I offer one-on-one physical therapy and wellness services tailored to address your individual pain condition, posture, and limitations in strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and gait, as well as functional activity training that involves your particular line of work, sport, hobby, and everyday living activities.

Please see the below information to be assured that Telehealth is recognized to be an effective and valuable method of delivery by the following Legislative State Findings and Declarations:

"Nevada Revised Statutes
Chapter 629 - Healing Arts Generally
NRS 629.510 - Legislative findings and declarations.

Universal Citation: NV Rev Stat § 629.510 (2019)

The Legislature hereby finds and declares that:

1. Health care services provided through telehealth are often as effective as health care services provided in person;

2. The provision of services through telehealth does not detract from, and often improves, the quality of health care provided to patients and the relationship between patients and providers of health care; and

3. It is the public policy of this State to: (a) Encourage and facilitate the provision of services through telehealth to improve public health and the quality of health care provided to patients and to lower the cost of health care in this State; and (b) Ensure that services provided through telehealth are covered by policies of insurance to the same extent as though provided in person or by other means."

There is no cookie-cutter or run of the mill treatment under my care as you will receive thorough evaluations, custom guidance, and a unique plan of care that will not be dictated by insurances, but rather by the quality care and time that you deserve as a person.

It is first and foremost essential to address the root causes of the pain or symptoms you are feeling. Learn about how your very own posture and alignment are contributing to these symptoms and how to begin to feel and move better again. Enjoy the life you love and resume what you love to do by taking this step!

I can then help you to progress  by addressing your individual limitations in strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, or gait, as well as through functional activity training that involves your particular line of work, sport, hobby, and everyday living. Your goal is my goal. And I will work with you toward achieving it. Below are just some of treatment methods that can be incorporated into your care to help reduce or eliminate pain:

(John F. Barnes)

Myofascial Release

I address persistent and chronic pain conditions which commonly include headaches/migraines, neck, back, joint, muscular, or nerve pain. I can help you alleviate your pain by getting to the crucial root causes through both evidence-based and holistic and gentle yet effective John F. Barnes Myofascial Release (MFR) principles and treatment. Even after traditional therapy, massage, medications, surgery, or alternative methods have failed, MFR has been effective in treating many seemingly “stubborn” conditions. It is also helpful for preventative care and measures and addresses restrictions in the body’s three dimensional connective tissue, also known as “fascia.”

MFR is a gentle, yet very effective hands-on technique that involves sustained pressures into the body's fascia or connective tissue, promoting a more healthful mind-body awareness. It involves the elongation of the body’s underlying fascia, allowing for restrictions to open, for the reduction or elimination of pain, and for restoration of motion without ever forcing the body.

Fascia is the continuous connective tissue that runs from head to toe, and its significance is often overlooked; it resembles an uninterrupted, three dimensional web that surrounds every organ, muscle, nerve, blood vessel, and cell of your entire body, thus allowing your body to retain its current form without collapsing. Under normal circumstances, it should allow for motion to occur fluidly at each joint in the body. The body's fascia tends to solidify with inflammation, disease, any emotional or physical trauma such as having a fall, being involved in a motor vehicle accident, giving birth, or undergoing any surgical procedure to name a few. The aforementioned can create restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in standard tests such as X-rays, MRIs, CAT scans, and EMGs.

MFR is a key and main treatment approach to facilitating heightened self-awareness and overall wellness. MFR self-treatment techniques, which you will carefully be guided through, are encouraged for optimal self-care and consistent progress.

McKenzie Method

When appropriate and applicable, the Mckenzie Method for assessment and/or treatment is used. The McKenzie approach is a system of mechanical evaluation and treatment consisting of repeated spinal motions to help centralize or reduce pain. It can be highly effective in the management of back and neck pain, particularly with pain that radiates into the extremities/hands and feet. It is used only upon certain evaluation findings and can be a helpful self-treatment approach for immediate relief in many cases.

Meditation and Body Awareness

Mental and emotional health are part of your overall well-being and go hand-in-hand with your physical state. Meditation, mental imagery, positive visualization, and grounding techniques can be incorporated into your plan of care to assist you in further mind/body healing to reduce pain, and to improve your mood, and to achieve well-rounded health. This approach ties in very well and is incorporated into much of the Myofascial Release principles.

 ONCE PAIN IS UNDER CONTROL

Once we have the pain under control, we can begin to progress your plan of care with any or all of the following depending on your goals and our assessment findings:

Therapeutic Exercise

Neuromuscular  Re-education

Core Stabilization

Agility and or Plyometric Training Based on Individualized Sport or Hobby  / Work-Related Training

Gait Training

Therapeutic Exercise

Therapeutic Exercise is a personalized exercise or stretching program designed just for your body’s specific needs and goals. This may include simple and safe core exercises, isolated strengthening activities for noted imbalances, and true myofascial stretching to address postural deviations and tissue extensibility; it can entail the instruction on the use of specific activities with physioballs, ankle or free weights, therabands, theratubing, medicine balls, and many other tools to aid in addressing particular findings. It can also be done without special tools and can be performed with your own body weight.

Neuromuscular Re-Education

Neuromuscular Re-education can consist of postural re-training, balance, and coordination training achieved through a variety of techniques and activities; this can involve the use of mirrors, physioballs, foam rollers, floor markers, floor ladders, different floor surfaces of varying consistency, self-treatment tools, other therapeutic/rehabilitative devices to aid in your healing process, or manual/verbal feedback for postural or movement correction.

Core Stabilization

Core Stabilization can fall under the category of both Therapeutic Exercise and Neuro-muscular Re-education. It involves learning how to activate and build awareness around key muscles of the abdomen that are responsible for your posture and ability to perform everyday or work/sport-related tasks. Core stabilization activities involve a gradual progression from beginner levels to more advanced levels and can be done both with or without tools or equipment.

Agility and Plyometric Training

Agility and Plyometric Training can improve coordination, speed, power, and sport-specific skill. Agility training may entail the use of, but is not limited to floor ladders, floor markers, and mini floor hurdle drills addressing quick vertical, forward, lateral, and diagonal movement. Plyometric training may involve the use of aerobic platforms and activities such as vertical or lateral box jumps, standing jumps, depth jumps, multiple hops, medicine ball throwing, or a combination of these and other movement power specific drills to name a few examples.

Gait Training

Gait Training entails functional training in ambulation with or without the use of appropriate assistive devices, such as canes, walkers, and crutches. It can involve training and education on proper sequencing and form while walking on flat or uneven surfaces. Gait training can coincide with balance and coordination training, as well.
